The collection development process permits the library to develop collections based on the user's needs and requirements. The collection development policy acts as a guide for selecting library materials. It helps to maintain library cooperation and communication between library staff. The study adopted a descriptive survey method. A structured questionnaire was distributed to 32 provincialised colleges affiliated with Guwahati and Dibrugarh University. The purpose of the present study is to know the status of the collection Development Policy in college libraries in Assam, the need for a standard collection Development Policy for all libraries, and identify the factors that affect the development of library collections. The study found that 90.63% of respondents have no Collection Development Policy for print resources. On the other hand, 09.37% of respondents have a Collection Development Policy for Print Resources. Moreover, 93.75% of respondents have no Collection Development Policy for Electronic Resources. On the other hand, 06.25% of respondents have a Collection Development Policy for Electronic Resources. Again, all libraries have no e-resource purchasing policy. The study recommended that all libraries should have a written, regular revision of the systematic collection development policy, and continuous training of library staff concerned with the activity of library collections.
