TERMINOLOGICAL PROGRESSION AND RESEARCH TRENDS IN INFORMATION LITERACIES: A SCIENTOMETRIC STUDY

Driven by technological advancements, information literacy has evolved significantly, leading to the emergence of various specialized literacies. Focusing on the context of Library and Information Science (LIS), the study aims to provide a deeper understanding of the terminological progression and research trends related to information literacy by presenting the volume, frequency, and distribution of publications focusing on various specialized literacies included within the broader concept of information literacy. A total of 2423 papers on various literacies published between 1989 and 2023 and indexed by Web of Science, were analyzed using Bibexcel and Excel spreadsheets. Through a comprehensive analysis of scientific publications, the study highlights how specific terminologies have emerged, evolved, gained prominence, or gradually declined over time, thereby mapping the thematic development and shifting research focus within the LIS domain. The findings will contribute to a better understanding of the progression of these literacies by highlighting the trends and collaborative efforts in this field, and providing a foundation for objective-oriented user education programs and future research.
