CONSTRAINTS PERCEIVED BY LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE PROFESSIONALS IN UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES IN KERALA

The present study highlights the constraints perceived by Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals in university libraries as they discharge their duties and responsibilities. Respondents of the current study is two hundred and sixty-six (266) LIS professionals working in the eight state universities in Kerala, India. A structured questionnaire was designed, and the census method was adopted for the collection of primary data. The study revealed that the major constraints perceived by LIS professionals are the inadequacy of LIS professionals, lack of motivation, and inadequate infrastructure, in that order. The research shows that LIS professionals at universities experience constraints at different levels. Concerted efforts of all stakeholders to be made to overcome the constraints plaguing the university libraries.
