Abstract

The study provides a comprehensive analysis of the Delhi Public Library (DPL), India's largest public library network, based on data collected through the Director General. The study evaluates DPL governance, staffing, finances, collection, services, and outreach mechanisms against internationally accepted public library standards. Findings reveal significant strengths, including an extensive branch network and diversified information services, alongside challenges such as staffing shortages and limited weekend accessibility. The study relies exclusively on primary data collected till March 2022 and does not include user surveys or branch-level observations. The study fills a major literature gap and offers recommendations aligned with NEP 2020 and Viksit Bharat@2047, providing a valuable insight for policymakers and library administrators.
