Abstract

Central Universities are modernizing their library services by the use of mobile technology. They are taking the advantages by adopting mobile technology to assist the users with timely access to information needs and providing services effectively and efficiently. The application of mobile technologies for modern service delivery has become trend in libraries. This paper examined the use of mobile technology and highlights the availability of various development tools for implementing mobile technology in Central University Libraries of North East India. The survey method was adopted for collecting data and analysis. The structured questionnaire was designed and distributed among respective Librarians/ Library-in-charge of 9 Central University Libraries in North East India. The response received was 100%. The paper discusses about the major findings regarding the use of mobile technology in delivering modern library services i.e. SMS service, QR Code, MOPAC, etc. and also aims to investigate the implementation of social media based service through mobile device in Central University Libraries of North East India. The study is based on original and primary research data collected from 9 Central University Libraries of North East India and depicts the use of mobile technology in these libraries.
