Evaluation of Credibility and Design Trait of Websites and Webpages of IIT Libraries of India

Library websites are crucial for dissemination and sharing of information. Their design must be systematic and carefully planned, and evaluating them before use is equally important. This study focuses on analyzing the design features and tools provided and used by the IITs library website/webpages. To conduct this analysis systematic checklist was created using earlier research findings to assess design and accessibility of library websites. The observations discovered that 73.91% IITs has separate and functional website for libraries. From study observed that all the library website/Webpages of IITs showing variations in their website structures, design pattern and utilization of aids and tools for designing and developing websites/webpages. The analysis shows that only 56.52% IITs integrated with social media platforms in their library websites. 100% IIT institute’s library website prominently supports the compatibility features, along with Trust and Security Features. Very few libraries (34.78%) provide the details of information of website administrator /maintenance which is very crucial for website, only 4.34% institute provide the currency and website creation details. Most of IIT libraries not providing features like website site map, website visitor counter, and font resize tool, screen reader tool into their websites/webpages. This study show the various attributes of website design and development of IIT libraries website, The results of the study assist in improving and making required changes in the websites as per the users expectation
