Research Landscape of India's Central Universities: A Study of Library and Information Science Ph.D. Theses Uploaded on the Shodhganga

The present study focuses on the research output of India's Central Universities in Library and Information Science (LIS), as reflected in the theses uploaded to the Shodhganga repository. Out of the 57 Central universities, only 13 contributed theses in Library and Information Science to the Shodhganga repository, which was are further analyzed and examined using the MS-Excel software. The results output from the study shows that the Aligarh Muslim University and University of Delhi were the most contributing universities with more than 65 and 57 LIS theses respectively to the Shodhganga repository. 57.73% of the researchers were male researchers which shows the dominance in the LIS field. Google scholar was used to find out the citations of the LIS theses, which highlights Aligarh Muslim University and Mizoram University LIS theses received highest of 29 and 20 citations each respectively. More than 95.67% of the LIS theses was single supervised while remaining LIS theses were co-supervised. 60.82% of overall LIS theses from all the central universities were uploaded between the year 2021-2025.
