An Empirical Study on the Role of Library Professionals of the Universities in Odisha Regarding the Promotion of Open Educational Resources

The study aims to investigate the status and role of library professionals in the context of the promotion of Open Educational Resources (OERs) in the state universities in Odisha. The researcher employed a survey method by employing different survey techniques such as email survey, telephonic survey, personal interaction, interview, and a web-based survey and observation. It was found that library professionals mostly preferred OER Commons and OER Dynamic Search Engine. It was also found that library professionals faced three prime challenges as per weightage mean, such as lack of awareness regarding OERs, difficulty in finding right OERs, and lack of availability of OER in the Odia language. It is suggested that library professionals should publish OER related information through university newsletter. The library professionals should observe Open Access Week very year. The university librarian should record orientation lectures/videos, and the videos should be uploaded to the library webpages for instant browsing. The university libraries may arrange a seminar or a lecture series every six months to create awareness regarding open licensing and copyright.
