Information Literacy Among The Research Scholars Of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University And Central University Jammu: A Comparative Study

Information literacy refers to the abilities of an individual in identifying, retrieving, and utilising appropriate and required information. This paper highlights the comparison of information literacy skills among the Research scholars of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) and Central University Jammu (CUJ).The purpose of the study is to examine the awareness and usages of library services and awareness about the fair and ethical use of information by the research scholars of both the universities under study. The main objective of the study is to compare the Information Literacy awareness level of research scholars of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) and Central University Jammu (CUJ).The primary data was collected through survey method and a semi structured questionnaire were distributed among 105 research scholars of both the universities in which 83 (80%) of questionnaires were received. The questionnaire was designed for Research Scholars to assess their information literacy skills. It is evident from the analysis that the research scholars of SMVDU have more legal awareness than the research scholars of CUJ. The respondents of both the universities need to be more aware of the use of OPAC in searching document from the Library. The analysis of the data also reveals that majority of the research scholars of both the universities use APA style manual format for documentation of sources. It has been also found that there is no significant difference in the information literacy skills on the use of e-resources among the research scholars of both the universities.
