Identifying and Analysing the Emotional Intelligence in Practising Librarians

Today's workplace is unpredictable, with high job stress, heavy workloads, multitasking, short hours, and frequent offers and transfers. Consequently, work-related stress, workload, and work-life balance disruptions are expected. The causes of stress are varied and complex. Emotional Intelligence is vital for handling life's challenges, building strong relationships, and improving well-being. Higher E.I in employees is linked to increased work satisfaction and greater happiness at work. Individuals with higher self-awareness effectively tackle challenges, while those with lower E.I may struggle with stress. High self-confidence is associated with effective problem-solving, in contrast to those lacking Emotional Intelligence, who may face challenges managing stress. The study aims to explore the satisfaction and performance of academic librarians with high Emotional Intelligence in India. The researchers used the Emotional Intelligence scale based on Goleman's four elements of E.I The research was geographically limited to university professionals in Maharashtra. The researcher received 52 responses from professionals working in various universities making a response rate of 55%. The study showed that Emotional Intelligence is crucial for librarians to enhance their productivity and performance. Gender does not affect Emotional Intelligence, as proven by research showing that high Emotional Intelligence strongly correlates with success. Librarians challenge stereotypes and skillfully help individuals of all abilities, even in tough situations. This article will provide an overview of emotional intelligence and its importance to library leaders.
