Abstract

The paper presents a webometric analysis conducted on seven Indian IISER institutes to investigate the correlation between ranking methods and website metrics, with a focus on online recognition and popularity. In today’s digital era, it is essential to study various web related parameters. So, by the help of webometric analysis it is easy to understand their impact and visibility. The research aims to provide valuable insights for academic institutions and policymakers to make well-informed decisions. The primary aim of this article is to examine the correlation between website metrics and institutional rankings, and their influence on the online recognition and popularity of IISER in India. The data collection process utilized Google's search engine with advanced query syntax to retrieve accurate and up-to-date results. The collection of data was conducted from May 25, 2023 to June 20, 2023. The authors mainly calculated 3 type of Web Impact Factor (WIF), i.e. Simple Web Impact Factor (SWIF), Ink link web Impact Factor (IWIF), and External Web Impact Factor (EWIF) and then extended the study to find NWP (Number of Web Pages), the number of ink links and number of external links and various web indicators. The findings of this research article reveal significant variations in website metrics and rankings among the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research. IISER-Berhampur secured the top rank with the highest WIF Links value, while IISER-Pune ranked at the bottom. Additionally, IISER-Mohali achieved the top rank with a remarkable Wiser Index Value of 18. Moreover, IISER-Pune demonstrated superior website authority, with the highest domain authority (16.49%), page authority (16.31%) percentages among all the listed institutes.
