Abstract

The study of academic information-seeking behavior and library use by visually impaired students in Karnataka: a comparative study collected data using quantitative and qualitative methods, including in-depth interviews, survey methods, and focus groups conducted among 1027 visually impaired students in Karnataka. The research showed that visually impaired students' information-seeking behaviors are similar to regular students. Still, they face distinct challenges due to the lack of modern facilities and support infrastructures at school, resulting in barriers that hinder their information-seeking process. This impediment causes them to spend more time seeking information, thus affecting their academic progress.  The study identifies these constraints and suggests ways to improve the academic information-seeking behavior and library use of visually impaired students in Karnataka. The implications of this research are significant for educators, librarians, and policymakers who seek to support visually impaired students' academic success. Understanding these disparities can lead to targeted interventions addressing these inequities and providing equal opportunities for all students.
