Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the information needs, sources of information and seeking behaviour of Information (ISB). This study examined poultry farmers in Namakkal, focusing on their socio-economic characteristics, information needs, and how they seek information. A survey of 104 participants showed that most were male, over 50 years old, and had a school education. They mainly relied on veterinary doctors for information. Factor analysis grouped 21 variables into seven main factors, explaining 74.10% of the variance. Key information sources included posters, television, social media, and veterinary doctors. The study found that poultry farmers were primarily concerned with disease management and vaccination, with veterinary doctors being their main information source. To support these farmers, recommendations include setting up community libraries, using digital platforms, tailoring information services, and improving the training of veterinary professionals. In conclusion, this study sheds light on the information needs of poultry farmers in Namakkal and suggests ways to better meet these needs and promote the poultry farming industry.
